Independence Day or the more commonly known as the Fourth of July, is celebrated in the United States commemorating the Declaration of Independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain in the year 1776.
In the event of American Revolution, occurrence of the legal separation of the Thirteen Colonies from Great Britain happened on July 2nd, 1776, when the Second Continental Congress voted in favour of a resolution of Independence proposed in June by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia. By an incredible coincidence, both signers of the Declaration of Independence, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson besides serving as Presidents of United States, died on the same day- July 4, 1826, which marked the 50th anniversary of the Declaration. Though not a part of the movement yet another Founder Father and also a President, James Monroe died on July 4, 1831. However, in full contradiction, the 30th President, Calvin Coolidge was born on July 4, 1872.
The Independence Day is symbolised by the American Flag which is displayed in all possible ways. The Statue of Liberty on Ellis Island in New York is other symbols associated with this day. To emphasise the culture and economy of the US, large civic works as Erie Canal and the Washington Monument start on July 4th.
